Bayeaux Tapestry
The world’s most famous tapestry is also at Frederiksborg – almost
Bayeaux
The Bayeux Tapestry is on everyone’s lips as the nearly 1,000-year-old masterpiece heads to London. But at Frederiksborg, too, visitors can get a close-up view of the 70-metre-long story of the Battle of Hastings. The museum holds a historic photographic copy of the Bayeux Tapestry from 1878, created using the latest technology of its day and painstakingly coloured by hand. Around 20 metres are currently on display, alongside nothing less than Denmark’s answer to the Bayeux Tapestry: the 37-metre-long Frølich Frieze, depicting Danish campaigns of conquest in England around the year 1000.
