Discover the tapestries of the Great Hall in a special exhibition.
The Great Hall at Frederiksborg Castle is adorned with enormous tapestries, and these monumental woven images carry an extraordinary story. From around 1900 and for the following 28 years, the tapestries were recreated by some of Denmark’s most visionary female entrepreneurs, led by Kristiane Konstantin-Hansen.
The exhibition presents the tapestries as both grand historical narratives, a statement of women’s empowerment, and innovative textile art. Behind the looms were women who not only wove, but also planned, organized, and challenged the norms of their time—often in close dialogue with contemporary artists. With dandelions appearing in scenes of war and modern patterns woven into the motifs, they left their mark on both textile and history. Visitors gain insight into an era in which the threads between history and renewal, and between hand and spirit, are tightly interwoven.
Experience the tapestries and other radical textile works of the period displayed alongside sketches, colour samples, paintings, and photographs. The exhibition is shown in the Great Hall and two adjoining rooms at Frederiksborg.
