Blue Christmas as Frederiksborg

04/11 2025 - 04/01 2026
Seasonal Activity 1 / 2

Discover what’s on at Frederiksborg this Christmas

In celebration of the grand installation BLUE CHRISTMAS, we invite families with children to cozy and creative workshops where you can design your very own Christmas plate – inspired by Royal Copenhagen’s iconic blue decorations. In addition to the installation in the Great Hall, you can wander through the centuries and experience the castle’s beautiful chandeliers, which create a special atmosphere during the dark winter months.

Family Workshops

Set the Table – Draw Your Own Christmas Plate

Every day from 5 November – 4 January, 10 AM – 5 PM

Decorate your plate and help us set a beautiful, blue, and festive table. Use the templates provided, or draw whatever you dream of!

No registration required – participation is included in the admission ticket.

Design Your Own Christmas Plate

Join our family workshop in the Rosen workshop area on the following weekends, 11 AM – 3 PM:

  • Saturday, 6 December & Sunday, 7 December

  • Saturday, 20 December & Sunday, 21 December

  • Saturday, 28 December & Sunday, 29 December

With blue porcelain markers and blank plates as your canvas, children and adults can unleash their imagination and create their very own (Christmas) motif.
Perhaps it will be a Christmas tree with stars, a snowy landscape – or a modern twist on the classic Royal Copenhagen elements.

No registration required – participation is included in the admission ticket.

More Christmas at Frederiksborg

Christmas under the chandeliers

In addition to the installation in the Great Hall, you can wander through the centuries and experience the castle’s beautiful chandeliers, which create a special atmosphere during the dark winter months.

You can also try Frederiksborg’s audio guide to the museum’s permanent porcelain collection. The audio guide was created by editor Tore Leifer, also in celebration of the 250th anniversary of the founding of Royal Copenhagen. See the portrait of Queen Juliane Marie on the second floor of the Princess Wing as you hear about the first royal porcelain sets produced by the factory.

Christmas at the Castle Chapel

Frederiksborg Castle Chapel also serves as the local parish church, and everyone is welcome to attend services here, including the Christmas High Masses. Please note that the nearly 600 seats for the Christmas services in the Chapel are in high demand. The full programme will be updated and available here in autumn 2025.

During services and High Masses, the Chapel is closed to visitors from the museum. At all other times, visitors may access the Chapel from the gallery corridor, which features coats of arms and offers a magnificent view over the church from the first floor.

At the southern end of the Chapel hang the royal family’s coats of arms, located behind the world-famous Compenius Organ – the oldest playable organ in the world still in operation. As a rule, an organ concert takes place every Thursday (please note that concerts are cancelled in week 47)
